What is Twitter?
Twitter is a social networking site that allows users to send updates, known as tweets, to people who are following them. They are text based messages that are up to 140 characters in length.
Twitter is free to join and free to use.
If you want to recieve updates through a text message (SMS) on your mobile phone it is quite easy! Twitter does not charge anything for the message to be sent but make sure you know your text plan with your carrier. The messages will still count towards your monthly usage.
Example: If you pay for 200 text messages a month and you recieve 50 updates from Twitter in one day, you are now left with 150 text messages for that month.
How can I get updates on my phone?
You can receive Twitter updates as text messages or you can download applications that make it even easier! Click here (external link) for a list of available programs and applications.
I signed up on Twitter and I am following "WJBCsports" but I do not get the text messages?
Make sure you have turned on "SMS Updates." In your profile, click on the "device" tab and enter your phone number. When you go to the profile page for "WJBCsports" you should see a check mark by follow and then "device updates" next to it. Click there to turn device updates on for that profile.
How often do the updates come?
WJBC will remind you of the game that afternoon or evening a couple of hours prior the start of the broadcast.
Throughout the game, you will receive approximately 4-5 updates in each half at the very minimum. These updates will include the score of the game and how much time is left in the half along with notes. Following the game you will receive links to the podcasts of the postgame interviews.
